The role combines practical, hands-on experience with structured training to develop the knowledge and skills required to become a qualified mechanical engineer or maintenance technician.Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, servicing, and repair of mechanical equipment and production machinery.
- Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities to minimise equipment downtime.
- Help diagnose mechanical faults and assist with repairs under supervision.
- Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and maintenance documentation.
- Assist in assembling, dismantling, and testing mechanical components and systems.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment safely and correctly.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete job documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency.
- Keep the workshop clean, organised and compliant with company housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Follow all company Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures, ensuring safe working practices are maintained at all times.
- Participate fully in apprenticeship training, attending college or external training providers as required.
- Work collaboratively with production, maintenance, and engineering teams.
Experience Required
- Interest in mechanical engineering and manufacturing.
- Basic understanding of mechanical principles is desirable.
- Good problem-solving and practical skills.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently once trained.
- Good attention to detail.
