The Tool Control Technician is responsible for the control, maintenance, traceability, calibration coordination, and compliance of production tooling and associated assets within an ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 regulated manufacturing environment. The role ensures tooling is available, serviceable, correctly identified, and maintained in accordance with quality management system requirements, customer specifications, and regulatory standards.
The position plays a key role in supporting production efficiency, product conformity, configuration control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Tooling Control & Traceability
- Maintain full traceability of all tooling, gauges, fixtures, jigs, and special production equipment.
- Control the issue, return, storage, and identification of tooling assets.
- Ensure all tooling is uniquely identified and recorded within the company tooling management system.
- Maintain tooling status records including serviceability, calibration status, repair history, and location tracking.
- Support configuration management requirements where applicable.
- Calibration & Compliance
- Coordinate calibration activities for applicable tooling and measuring equipment.
- Ensure tooling and equipment used in production comply with calibration and certification requirements.
- Quarantine and report out-of-calibration, damaged, or unserviceable tooling.
- Support internal and external audits relating to ISO 9001 / AS9100 compliance.
- Maintain accurate quality records in line with document retention procedures.
- Maintenance & Inspection
- Conduct routine inspections of tools and production equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
- Arrange repairs, refurbishment, and replacement of tooling as required.
- Monitor tooling wear and usage trends to minimise production disruption.
- Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
- Production Support
- Provide timely tooling support to manufacturing operations.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and production setup activities.
- Assist engineering and quality departments with tooling investigations and root cause analysis.
- Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Quality & Safety
- Ensure compliance with company quality procedures and aerospace/customer standards.
- Adhere to health, safety, environmental, and housekeeping requirements.
- Promote a culture of right-first-time manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Raise non-conformances and support corrective action activities where required.
- Strong understanding of tooling control and traceability processes.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality standards.
- Familiarity with calibration systems and quality documentation.
- Good mechanical and technical aptitude.
- Strong attention to detail and record accuracy.
- Ability to work within controlled manufacturing processes.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Competent with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced production environment.
