About the Role

CNC Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a leading and internationally recognised sustainable food manufacturer for an experienced Shift Maintenance Engineer to join their busy production operation. This is an excellent opportunity for a multi-skilled maintenance engineer with experience in a high-volume manufacturing or FMCG environment to play a key role in maintaining the safe, efficient and continuous operation of production machinery, utilities and engineering systems.

Working as part of the Engineering team, you will be responsible for both planned preventative and reactive maintenance, responding quickly to breakdowns, identifying faults and helping to minimise production downtime. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement projects, equipment efficiency initiatives and energy-saving improvements across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond quickly and effectively to mechanical, electrical and plant breakdowns.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with agreed schedules.
  • Complete reactive and planned maintenance records accurately using the CMMS.
  • Diagnose faults and minimise production downtime caused by mechanical or electrical failures.
  • Monitor plant and equipment condition to identify potential failures before they occur.
  • Ensure all machinery, facilities and utilities are maintained in a safe and reliable condition.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Production and Planning teams to ensure maintenance schedules are completed on time and within budget.
  • Support food safety, quality and hygiene standards throughout the manufacturing environment.
  • Contribute to internal hygiene audits and continuous improvements in audit performance.
  • Support engineering projects and identify opportunities to improve productivity, equipment efficiency and energy performance.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within the Engineering workshop.
  • Assist with the control of contractors and Permit to Work procedures.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with company procedures, Health & Safety legislation, food safety requirements and relevant certification standards.
  • Work in accordance with IFS, organic certification and food safety standards.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required within the Engineering function.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer who is confident working in a fast-paced production environment and enjoys diagnosing problems and finding effective solutions.

Essential requirements:

  • Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship and/or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance.
  • Minimum of 2 years' engineering experience within a production/manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance and fabrication skills.
  • Multi-skilled engineering experience.
  • Experience of planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Experience using planned maintenance systems/CMMS.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience within high-volume manufacturing.
  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement or Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different departments.
  • A structured and logical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Reliable, resilient and committed to continuous personal and professional development.

Desirable:

  • FMCG or food manufacturing experience.
  • Experience working within a shift-based production environment.
  • Knowledge of IFS and food safety standards.
  • Knowledge of production and packing machinery.
  • IOSH qualification.
  • Previous experience working with food manufacturing operations.

Working Environment

This is a 4,5,5,4 shift pattern, working: 07:00-19:00 / 19:00-07:00. The role is based within a food manufacturing environment, so candidates will be required to follow strict food hygiene, quality and safety procedures. Appropriate PPE and food-grade protective clothing will be provided.
