About the Role
CNC Recruitment are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join their busy production and manufacturing facility.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and continuous operation of production machinery, utilities and engineering systems throughout their assigned shift.
This is a hands-on role involving both planned and reactive maintenance, fault-finding and breakdown response, with a strong focus on minimising downtime and maintaining high standards of safety, quality and food safety.
The role would suit an experienced multi-skilled engineer with a strong mechanical background who is comfortable working within a fast-paced production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond quickly and effectively to plant breakdowns, faults and quality issues.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with agreed schedules.
- Complete all planned and reactive maintenance records accurately using the CMMS.
- Monitor equipment performance and plant condition to identify potential failures before they occur.
- Minimise production downtime caused by mechanical and electrical failures.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out safely and equipment is maintained in a safe condition.
- Support the achievement of high food safety and quality standards.
- Work alongside the Engineering Coordinator and planning team to complete preventative maintenance schedules on time and within budget.
- Support internal hygiene audits and contribute towards continuous improvements in audit performance.
- Work with the Engineering Manager on engineering projects and identify opportunities to improve productivity, equipment efficiency and energy usage.
- Ensure site facilities and utilities remain mechanically and electrically safe.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within the engineering workshop.
- Manage contractors and ensure Permit to Work procedures are followed correctly.
- Ensure compliance with relevant food safety, quality and certification standards.
- Contribute to a positive food safety and quality culture across the site.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement across engineering and production processes.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required within the role.
Working Environment & Shift Pattern
The role operates on a 4,5,5,4 rotating shift pattern, working:
- 07:00-19:00
- 19:00-07:00
The successful candidate will be required to work within a food manufacturing and production environment and follow strict hygiene, food safety and PPE requirements.
Appropriate PPE will be provided, including food-grade coats, mop caps, beard snoods where required, hi-vis clothing in warehouse areas, steel toe-capped footwear and eye protection.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship and/or NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Maintenance or equivalent.
- Minimum of 2 years' engineering experience within a production/manufacturing environment.
- Strong multi-skilled engineering background.
- Good mechanical maintenance and fabrication skills.
- Experience of both planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
- Experience working with planned maintenance systems/CMMS.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
- Logical and structured approach to fault-finding and problem-solving.
- Experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of Continuous Improvement (CI) or Lean methodologies.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and engage with colleagues across the business.

Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within FMCG or food manufacturing.
- Experience working within a shift-based production environment.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and certification requirements.

- IOSH or other relevant Health & Safety qualification.
- Experience contributing to engineering, productivity or continuous improvement projects.
