CNC Recruitment is working with a well-established timber manufacturing business in South Petherton to recruit a Sawmill Operative / Timber Machinist. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in timber machining or sawmill operations to join a friendly and skilled production team. You will be responsible for operating a range of woodworking machinery, producing high-quality timber products to customer specifications while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. If you are practical, hardworking and enjoy hands-on work, this could be the ideal role for you.

The Role

Working as part of a production team, you will operate timber machining equipment to process and prepare timber products, ensuring customer orders are completed accurately, safely and on time. You will take pride in producing quality workmanship while helping to maximise efficiency and minimise waste throughout the production process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select suitable timber for customer orders.
  • Operate sawmill and woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Cut, saw and machine timber to required specifications.
  • Maximise yield from each piece of timber to minimise waste.
  • Accurately record production information on paperwork and company systems.
  • Stack, band, label and prepare completed orders for dispatch.
  • Carry out quality checks to ensure products meet customer requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised working area.
  • Support other production and sawmill activities as required.
  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and company policies.

Performance Measures

Success in this role will be measured through:

  • Production output (linear metres produced per hour/day).
  • Timber yield and waste reduction.
  • Quality and accuracy of finished products.

What We Are Looking For

Experience

  • Previous experience working within a timber sawmill, woodworking or timber machining environment is preferred.
  • Experience operating woodworking or sawmill machinery.
  • A qualification or certification in woodworking or timber machining is advantageous.
  • Forklift licence is desirable but not essential.

  • Good standard of basic education, particularly Maths.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders.
  • Strong practical and problem-solving skills.
