CNC Recruitment is delighted to be working with a well-established and highly respected manufacturing business to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Officer. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive health and safety professional to play a key role in developing and maintaining a robust Health & Safety Management System within a quality-driven manufacturing environment.

Working closely with the Quality Manager, you will support the implementation of health and safety strategies, ensure compliance with UK legislation, and promote a positive safety culture across the organisation. This is a hands-on role where you'll work collaboratively with managers and employees to drive continuous improvement and embed best practices throughout the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health & Safety Management
    • Support the development, implementation and maintenance of the company's Health & Safety Management System.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant UK Health & Safety legislation and industry standards.
    • Develop, review and update health and safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
    • Provide practical health and safety advice and guidance to managers and employees.
    • Monitor legislative changes and recommend improvements to maintain compliance.
    • Contribute to health and safety objectives and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Risk Management & Compliance
    • Conduct workplace inspections and audits to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
    • Carry out and review risk assessments, ensuring effective control measures are implemented.
    • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
    • Monitor the completion of corrective actions to ensure issues are resolved effectively.
    • Support regulatory inspections and customer audits relating to health and safety.
    • Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
  • Training & Employee Engagement
    • Deliver health and safety inductions for new employees and contractors.
    • Coordinate and support health and safety training programmes.
    • Promote a positive safety culture through toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness campaigns.
    • Encourage proactive reporting of hazards, near misses and improvement opportunities.
    • Support Health & Safety Committee meetings and follow up on agreed actions.
  • Emergency Preparedness & Occupational Safety
    • Assist in maintaining emergency response procedures, including fire safety and evacuation plans.
    • Coordinate emergency drills and business preparedness activities.
    • Monitor first aid, fire safety and workplace welfare arrangements.
    • Liaise with occupational health providers and specialist safety consultants where required.
    • Support environmental compliance initiatives, including waste management and environmental awareness.
About You

We're looking for an organised and knowledgeable Health & Safety professional who can confidently engage with people at all levels of the business and drive a culture of continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements
  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety role within a manufacturing, engineering or industrial environment.
  • Good working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent recognised qualification).
  • Experience carrying out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments.
  • Experience investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
  • Experience within aerospace or another highly regulated manufacturing sector.
  • Internal Auditor qualification.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems.
