CMS2 is a specialist equipment manufacturer supplying maritime atmosphere control systems and support services. CMS2 are experts in enabling high availability atmosphere management systems to generate breathable air for submariners, allowing boats to remain underwater for long periods of time. We do this by combining over sixty years of expertise with the latest technology and processes to design, build and support high quality systems and solutions.
We are seeking a Test and Instrumentation Engineer to join our established team. The Test and Instrumentation Engineer will provide the testing of CMS2βs air purification equipment to the highest of quality and in accordance with the company procedures, customer standards and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Integration of test instrumentation.
- Interface benchtop instruments (oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators) with automation platforms.
- Data acquisition and analysis.
- Configure DAQ systems for data capture to compile test information to formulate baseline information.
- Optimise test cycle times, improve reliability and implement error proofing techniques for automated test processes.
- Contact for Test & Instrumentation activities on the full range of CMS2 key products and provide a pro-active and hands-on approach to the test, and fault diagnosis for CMS2 equipment on and off site.
- Develop and maintain in house automated test equipment that will enhance the timings and effort required on day-to-day testing.
- Conduct thorough testing and validation of electrical automation systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and performance requirements.
- Carry out flash testing, IR testing, earth bonding and point to point checks.
- Investigate mechanical and electrical problems, diagnosing and repairing faults where appropriate.
- Use benchtop test equipment such as oscilloscopes, counter timers, Multimeter, earth testers, IR testers, meggers etc.
- Ensure documentation and test results are recorded as required.
- Feedback to the engineering team with any design or maintenance issues that have occurred throughout the test phase.
- Perform hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure tests on mechanical components, piping systems, and plant assemblies in accordance with engineering specifications and safety regulations.
- Run factory acceptance tests (FATβs) with the customer present. Demonstrate how our equipment works from mechanical, electrical and a chemical process side.
- 20% (Equal to 1 day per week) β To be focus time on automating test procedures for more efficiency within the department.
- 80% (Equal to 4 days per week) β To be focused on Test and instrumentation work.
- Carry out any other ad-hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
- Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.
- Follow company procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
- Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.
- NVQ/HNC qualification in engineering.
- Apprenticeship in relevant engineering field.
- Previous test & commissioning experience in a highly regulated industry (process engineering).
- Strong commitment to health and safety, environment and quality.
- IOSH Working Safely.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as process engineering drawings, specifications and procedures.
- Good hands on electrical / mechanical skills.
- Pragmatic approach to tasks.
- Must be able to work efficiently as part of a team and to work under pressure in a challenging environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, self-motivated and able to work well under own initiative.
- HND/Degree qualified in engineering.
- Previous experience within a manufacturing and defence environment.
- Shipbuilding / Ship Repair background within the MOD / Naval Industry.
- Familiar with NPI / NPD.
- Experience of air purification equipment on-board submarines highly desirable.
- Able to forge strong working relationships both internally and externally.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- 5S / LEAN continuous improvement.
- Some travel to MoD sites in the UK and customer sites overseas may occasionally be required.
- Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
- Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. To gain SC clearance you will normally have had to have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
- Candidates must be able to obtain a basic security check which will normally require you to have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years.
