CMS2 is a specialist equipment manufacturer supplying maritime atmosphere control systems and support services. CMS2 are experts in enabling high availability atmosphere management systems to generate breathable air for submariners, allowing boats to remain underwater for long periods of time. We do this by combining over sixty years of expertise with the latest technology and processes to design, build and support high quality systems and solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for hardware and/or software systems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define test requirements and improve product quality.
- Set‑up, configure, test, commission and maintain complex process equipment.
- Perform pre‑commissioning checks, functional testing and performance validation of equipment in Portsmouth and on site if required.
- Carry out activities in line with the company’s test procedures.
- Investigate mechanical/electrical/electronic/functional problems to assist with diagnosing and repair of faults.
- Document test results, track defects, and support root cause analysis.
- Ensure documentation and test results are recorded consistently and accurately.
- Run system demonstrations with customers.
- Control and maintain professional standards within the test areas.
- Record and analyse data being captured within the test environment.
- Ensure Health, Safety, Environment and Quality requirements are adhered to at all times.
- Maintain professional standards within the shop floor / test bay areas.
General Activities
- Carry out any other ad‑hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
- Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.
- Follow company procedures, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
- Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
- NVQ/HNC or above qualification in engineering.
- Previous test & commissioning experience in a highly regulated industry (process engineering).
- Strong commitment to health and safety, environment and quality.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as process engineering drawings, specifications and procedures.
- Able to use basic test equipment such as multimeter, loop calibrators, oscilloscope.
- Good hands‑on electrical / mechanical skills.
- Pragmatic approach to tasks.
- Must be able to work efficiently as part of a team and to work under pressure in a challenging environment.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm, self‑motivated and able to work well under own initiative.
Desirable:
- IOSH Working Safely.
- Apprenticeship in relevant engineering field.
- HND/Degree qualified in engineering.
- Previous experience within a manufacturing and defence environment.
- Shipbuilding / Ship Repair background within the MOD / Naval Industry.
- Familiar with NPI / NPD.
- Experience of air purification equipment on‑board submarines highly desirable.
- Able to forge strong working relationships both internally and externally.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- 5S / LEAN continuous improvement.
Other Requirements
- Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
- Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. To gain SC clearance you will normally have had to have been a resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.
Travel Requirements
- Some travel to other Group offices in the UK may occasionally be required.
