Our Sector Expertise CMS is recognised as one of Europe’s leading firms for the Gambling and TMC sub-sectors. We hold Legal 500 and Chambers Band 1 rankings in Gambling and key Media & Entertainment categories and are one of the largest and most experienced Gambling and TMC groups in the UK and Europe, with more than 300 lawyers across the full range of service lines specialising in these industry sectors. Our client roster spans both household names and growth companies in online and retail gambling, digital content, broadcasting, publishing, music and entertainment, video gaming and advertising (and investors focused on these sectors), which generates a significant volume of buy‑side and sell‑side M&A and other transactional mandates.
About The Role As part of our Gambling and TMC transactional practice, you’ll work on cross‑border deals from day one, the majority of which will involve bespoke and unusual structures and dynamics which provide excellent opportunities to challenge an ambitious and creative corporate lawyer. You’ll collaborate across our 90 plus international offices and work closely with experts in IP, data protection, commercial tech, gambling regulatory, competition and disputes to deliver deals in some of the fastest moving sectors of the global economy. We want our corporate lawyers to become genuine subject matter experts in the industry sectors they are immersed in.
If you want exposure to exciting work, innovative and often entrepreneurial clients and complex cross‑border transactions, CMS offers a platform where you can grow and specialise and develop some first‑class industry‑specific expertise.
Responsibilities
- Take the lead role on a huge array of corporate transactions, managing teams of associates and trainees in the London office and teams of lawyers elsewhere in the UK and overseas.
- Develop existing and new client relationships, with a freedom to source and develop contacts and prospects (e.g. via entertaining) without needing partner attendance.
- Support the firm in developing its business and raising the profile of the firm in the Gambling and TMC sectors (including opportunities to speak at UK and international industry events and publish content to demonstrate your experience and develop your network).
- Supervise and train mid‑level and junior associates and trainees.
- Adopt and encourage the adoption of a sophisticated approach to AI usage in your work and that of the team throughout the lifecycle of a project.
About You We will invest in your ongoing training and development to support your professional goals and help you to thrive in your role from day one. You will be a team player with excellent drafting skills (often needing to create bespoke documents and mechanisms without relying on precedents) and the ability to translate legal analysis into practical advice. You will need to have sound judgement, strong commercial acumen, good interpersonal and business advisory skills and a willingness and hunger to become genuinely expert in the Gambling and TMC sectors. Your willingness and interest in using AI tools to enhance your work and efficiency is essential. To meet the needs of the role, you will have an appropriate level of post‑qualification experience. Ideally, we are looking for a minimum PQE of 5 years. The ability to communicate clearly and succinctly with clients is a must.
Ideally you would have existing experience of transacting in the Gambling and/or TMC sectors and/or have specific experience of one or both of the sectors (e.g. via experience working in‑house or on secondment at a business operating within either sector).
