An exciting opportunity to join a growing team tackling cutting‑edge regulatory issues particularly in the telecoms sector, in the UK and internationally. The UK Antitrust, Competition & Trade team includes seven partners and sixteen other fee‑earners, supported by a dedicated Professional Support Lawyer. Team members are based primarily in London, with colleagues in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Brussels. The team forms part of CMS’s wider global Antitrust, Competition & Trade Group of more than 225 lawyers and works closely with the firm’s Technology, Media and Telecoms practice.

About The Role

We’re looking for an Associate to join our Antitrust, Competition & Trade team, with a focus on cutting‑edge regulatory work in the telecoms sector. The role sits within a growing regulatory practice, working on UK and international matters alongside our Technology, Media and Telecoms colleagues. You’ll contribute to advisory, compliance and investigatory work, including cutting‑edge mandates involving emerging regulatory and technology issues. This is an opportunity to build your regulatory experience within a collaborative, internationally connected team, with early responsibility and exposure to clients.

In this role, you can expect to get involved in a variety of work including:

  • Advise on telecoms regulation matters in the UK and through international coordination
  • Support clients on regulatory compliance, investigations and advisory work
  • Contribute to cutting‑edge mandates involving developing areas such as satellite licensing, cybersecurity and interception
  • Work closely with colleagues across Antitrust, Competition & Trade and the wider Technology, Media and Telecoms team
  • Take part in client relationships and business development activity from an early stage
  • Continue to develop your technical and commercial skills through structured training, including the use of technology and AI tools

About You

Essential

  • Experience or training in telecoms regulation
  • Around 3 – 6 years’ post‑qualification experience, or equivalent
  • An interest in regulatory law and in contributing to the growth of the regulatory practice
  • The ability to provide clear, commercially focused advice
  • A collaborative approach and a commitment to high standards of client service

Desirable

  • In‑house experience within the telecoms sector
  • Experience or exposure to satellite businesses and/or licensing work
