About the RoleWe are seeking to hire an experienced Resource Manager to provide our Energy, Infrastructure, Projects and Construction Practice (\”EPC\”) with work allocation and resource management support with the aim to move to a more structured resource management approach, to better support diversity and inclusion, to enable the management of people, and their performance and development in an increasingly flexible environment, and to encourage greater collaboration across teams and locations.
Responsibilities
Be the business services lead for allocating work across the different EPC sub teams and make sure there is fair and equal access to work for fee earners with work allocation based on skills rather than personal relationships.
Improve career development of our people, giving them access to a wider variety of work that matches their development needs and aspirations, resulting in higher levels of engagement and a higher level of retention.
Identify training needs, performance issues and coordinate with Partners/HR/PSLs/L&D to manage proactively and manage wellbeing issues.
Even utilisation across teams/locations resulting in more efficient use of resources and enabling greater cross working across locations/teams.
Provide improved management information to support decision making in relation to people management at team and practice group level.
Support allocation of resources against client rates to optimise profitability and support national working strategy.
Support implementation, training and development of a new resource management tool and implement changes required to the structure, process and approach alongside this third-party tool.
Work with Practice Group Leads, Team leads and other Partners to develop relationships and understand resourcing needs and keep knowledge up to date.
Build presence in key Teams meetings and Partners\’ meetings as necessary.
Provide weekly utilisation and projected capacity reports and more regular updates to partners.
Review utilisation and overall hours stats daily and weekly, flag concerns in real time to partner group as required.
Work with fee earners to develop relationship, understand capacity, skill sets, and assist matching preferences to available work.
Map skills in the team, identify experience needs, understand career aspirations.
Monitor, remind and chase fee earners to update capacity forecast weekly.
Work with Practice Management Team and Business Support Services to develop global best practices and share guidance.
Work closely with Finance, HR, Project Management and Business Development on people initiatives and best practices.
Assist with internal secondments and recruitment.
Liaise with trainee supervisors to monitor trainee performance and allocate appropriate work.
Carry out weekly and monthly work allocation analysis to report on trends and recommend improvements.
Compare forecasted utilisation against actual utilisation weekly and address inconsistencies.
Track holidays and map to utilisation to recommend re-allocation solutions ahead of time.
Qualifications
Prior experience in work allocation or resource management within a legal, professional services or corporate environment is highly advantageous.
Qualified lawyer or other professional with a law degree or relevant experience within the legal sector/Resource management background.
Strong commercial acumen and business awareness.
