The predicted salary is between 30000 - 42000 £ per year.
This role will primarily involve working with our intellectual property team on contentious workstreams. Experience of the Scottish Court of Session or English court process, managing your own litigation caseload in a debt recovery or similar paralegal role, and dealing with direct telephone calls from debtors/defendants will be preferred. Other aspects of the role are likely to include supporting our real estate planning team with document management and due diligence, and supporting clients with projects such as data subject access requests.
CMS are looking to recruit an experienced litigation Paralegal / Senior Paralegal to join our Legal Services Unit in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh office. The Legal Services Unit is the centralised paralegal team at CMS. The successful candidate will undertake a varied workload, with the primary focus being providing support to our thriving intellectual property team, working for and with a variety of high‑profile clients. Key Responsibilities- Scottish (Court of Session) & English Litigation Support (Undefended Actions) – Assist fee earners across Scottish and English cases with issuing Letters Before Action, assisting lawyers with raising court actions (including preparing paperwork and productions), dealing with additional stages of court process as required including the progressing of money judgments.
- Negotiation and liaison with target premises – Dealing with queries and contact from the recipients of letters before action, taking instructions from client and negotiation and management of a range of responses and behaviours.
- End‑to‑End Caseflow & Workbox Management – Manage tasks within the team’s joint workbox, ensuring court deadlines, enforcement activity, and client correspondence are actioned promptly and in line with jurisdictional requirements.
- Negotiation & Client Liaison – Negotiate sustainable payment arrangements in accordance with client instructions and court processes.
- Investigations, Asset Tracing & Insolvency Check – Instruct investigations, including property ownership searches, asset identification, and insolvency checks to support enforcement and recovery strategy.
- Enforcement, Tracing & Recovery Action – Instruct and oversee trace reports and enforcement action, including diligence and post‑judgment recovery across Scottish and English jurisdictions.

Previous litigation experience (as a debt recovery paralegal or similar) is essential. A relevant paralegal qualification and/or a degree in law would be helpful, but not essential.
