CMS Recruitmentare seeking hardworking painter and decorator on a permanent basis to join our well know property maintenance client working across Northumberland.

Duties and Responsibilities: To deliver high-quality painting and decorating works across occupied domestic homes, void properties, and commercial/facilities buildings. The Painter & Decorator ensures surfaces are finished to a professional standard, contributes to property condition and appearance, and supports the organisations commitment to safe, well-maintained and compliant environments. Work must be completed efficiently, safely, and with minimal disruption to tenants, staff, and building users.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out internal and external painting using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Treat damp and mould by safely removing affected areas, washing and preparing surfaces, and applying anti-mould treatments followed by appropriate finishing paints.
  • Undertake preparation work including sanding, filling, making-good, washing down, stabilising surfaces, and applying primers/undercoats.
  • Complete wallpaper hanging including lining paper, feature walls, and full-room applications where required.
  • Repair minor surface defects including cracks, holes, flaking paint, blown plaster patches, and substrates requiring preparation before finishing.
  • Apply specialist coatings (anti-mould, fire-retardant, metal coatings, varnishes) as trained and required.
  • Work respectfully and safely in occupied homes, ensuring minimal disruption, maintaining clean work areas, and communicating clearly with tenants.
  • Support void property turnaround programmes by preparing and decorating rooms to lettable standards.
  • Follow all Health & Safety policies, safe systems of work, and PPE requirements.
  • Identify and report hazards such as damp mould, substrate failure, asbestos concerns, or unsafe conditions.
  • Record job details, materials, photographs, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets.
  • Provide excellent customer service and always uphold professionalism.

Vehicle Responsibilities

  • Drive company vehicles safely and in line with UK road laws and fleet policies.
  • Conduct daily vehicle checks including tyres, lights, fluids, damage, and load security.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, roadworthy, and serviced in line with organisational schedules.
  • Report defects immediately and remove vehicles from use where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate van stock including paints, brushes, rollers, fillers, PPE, and consumables.
  • Secure tools, materials, and equipment safely in transit and onsite.
  • Follow policies on fuel use, telematics, idling, parking, and accident reporting.

  • Use dust extraction, masking equipment, and safety equipment as required.
  • Ensure van stock is maintained, recorded, and compliant with company policies.

  • First-time fix rate and quality of finish.
  • Quality inspection results.
  • Customer satisfaction and tenant feedback.
  • Productivity and job completion times.
  • Compliance with Health & Safety procedures.
  • Accuracy of digital job records, photographs, and stock reporting.

  • Participation in out-of-hours or emergency response rotas where required.
  • Attendance at toolbox talks, mandatory training, and safety briefings.
  • Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection when working in homes.

Personal Specification

You must have:

  • Qualified Painter & Decorator (NVQ Level 2 or equivalent).
  • Strong knowledge of modern and traditional painting and decorating methods.
  • Experience working in occupied domestic properties, voids, and commercial buildings.
  • Ability to prepare a wide range of surfaces including wood, plaster, metal, previously painted surfaces, and external substrates.
  • Understanding of damp, mould, substrate defects, and correct product selection.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-trade team.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Multi-trade capability (basic plumbing, plastering, tiling, Joinery).
  • Experience with digital job management systems and Asbestos Awareness training.
