CMS is committed to addressing it’s impact on the environment and has an ambitious sustainability strategy and climate change commitments.

CMS UK and its international offices was the first of only two law firms globally to announce and set a near-term Science Based Target to measure our carbon reduction progress. We are aiming to reduce our emissions 30% by 2025 and 50% by 2030, across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. We are also committed to being Net Zero by 2050 at the latest and are in the process of setting a Net Zero target approved by the Science Based Target initiative.

You’ll be responsible for managing the development and implementation of the firm’s sustainability strategy across all our offices internationally. In this role, you can expect to get involved in a variety of work including:

  • Leading and managing the different sustainability activities across the business to ensure we meet our sustainability targets and commitments.

  • Building engagement and embedding sustainability across the business.

  • Communicating our sustainability strategy and progress effectively across all our different stakeholders.

  • Working in collaboration with key stakeholders, including clients both internally and externally, to help reduce the firm’s sustainability targets and implement areas of improvement and innovation across the firm.

  • Liaising with and managing internal and external stakeholder relationships and preparing reports and presentations for internal and external submission/distribution.

  • Supporting sustainability committees and champions across the business.

  • Providing subject matter expertise on sustainability.

  • Representing the firm at industry forums, networks and other external events.

We’re looking for you to have 2/3 years+ experience of sustainability and environmental management, ideally within a similar role. To be successful in this role you’ll need:

Track record in delivering projects and change.

Strong project management experience with proven ability to manage multiple deliverables within a tight timeframe

Strong awareness of the developing climate change and sustainability agenda and relevance to the firm

Experience of working globally across multiple locations and with many stakeholders of different seniority.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written, spoken and presentational with a demonstrated experience of delivering excellent levels of client service.

Ability to build strong business relationships with internal and external clients and excellent influencing and networking skills

Experience of employee engagement and communication

Knowledge and experience of preparing and submitting external sustainability reports

Strong data analysis and management skills.

A confident, proactive individual prepared to take a hands-on approach to managing their workload using their own initiative
