About the role
CMS is looking for a dedicated Paralegal to join our Legal Services Unit.
The role will be focused on supporting our thriving Real Estate team and can be based in any of our Sheffield, Manchester or Liverpool offices.
The Real Estate Paralegal will support the UK Real Estate team, providing advice in property investment and development, planning and disputes for clients that include large development companies, banks, pension funds, private investors and retail funds.
Responsibilities
- Manage a busy caseload of transactions, including short‑term leases, licences to occupy, licences to assign, licences for alterations, surrenders, deeds of variation/easement and rent reviews.
- Manage straightforward purchases and sales (e. g., auction sales and residential plot sales) and support larger or complex portfolio purchases and sales, including routine project management, title and tenancy diligence and preparation for completion.
- Carry out title and occupational lease review exercises and assist with the preparation of reports and certificates of title.
- Assist with file opening procedures, including preparing the first draft of retainer letters and ensuring compliance with money‑laundering regulations.
- Set up and manage data rooms, and support completion and post‑completion registrations, forms, filing and client signing/reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Strong academic background; a degree in law or an equivalent qualification is preferred, though not essential.
- Working towards CILEX is acceptable.
- Demonstrated experience as a Paralegal within a Real Estate legal environment.
- Keen eye for detail, initiative, excellent organisational and time‑management skills, and the ability to prioritise conflicting deadlines.
- Exceptional communication skills and an ability to work well in a team.
