About the Role

The main purpose of the Senior Usability Engineer is to plan and execute Usability activities for new system designs and formal activities.

The primary responsibilities include planning for each Usability activity to ensure scope is defined, creation and timely delivery of UFMEAs, protocols and reports, and ensuring documentation is accurate and follows internal and external guidelines for content.

Activities also include the planning and execution of formative and summative studies with help from other team members and CMR staff/external consultants if required. The role includes being able to assess the impact of new usability features or requirements on the exiting protocols and UFMEA documentation as well as consulting with the design teams on the level of usability activity needed.

This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of 3 days a week being based in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Support the team with planning, moderating and reporting of formative and summative usability studies
  • Compile documentation in accordance with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Creation and maintenance of UFMEA and other risk related documents (critical task lists)
  • Any other activities to support the team in achieving the Human Factors activities for specific Projects

We’d expect you to be willing to turn your hand to anything within the Human Factors remit that helps the team deliver its objectives.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have/be:

  • Previous experience in working as part of a development team to meet human factors and usability objectives for complex products
  • Strong interpersonal skills across a diverse range of engineering, clinical and business disciplines
  • Articulate, a strong communicator with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with observing and interviewing people in clinical situations
  • A proven ability to synthesise a lot of information and distil it into meaningful actions
  • A track record of consistently producing valuable, well-written, deliverables containing solid and actionable recommendations
  • Experience of applying human factors methodologies for MDR & FDA regulated medical devices
  • Experience of the development of risk management documentation (UFMEA) in line with ISO 14971
  • Experience of working in a hospital environment and/or knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures an advantage
  • Ability to travel to the U.S.A. to support studies
