We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Credit Controller to join their finance team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to take ownership of the credit control function and contribute to the organisation's ongoing financial performance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing customer accounts, reducing outstanding debt, and supporting effective cash flow management across the business.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Credit Risk & Account Management: Evaluate new and existing customer accounts to determine appropriate credit levels. Process credit account applications and maintain accurate customer records. Monitor customer payment behaviour and review credit limits on a regular basis. Ensure company credit policies are applied consistently and effectively.
- Collections & Debt Recovery: Take responsibility for the timely collection of outstanding invoices. Manage and prioritise aged debt, following up with customers by telephone, email and written communication. Agree suitable repayment arrangements where required. Identify high-risk accounts and escalate concerns to management when necessary.
- Account Administration: Investigate and resolve account discrepancies, payment issues and invoice queries. Reconcile customer accounts to ensure records remain accurate and up to date. Work closely with internal teams to address billing issues and improve payment processes.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare regular reports on aged debt and collection activity. Monitor debtor performance against agreed targets. Highlight potential risks and provide recommendations to support debt reduction.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Develop positive working relationships with customers while maintaining a professional approach to debt collection. Collaborate with colleagues across Finance, Sales and Customer Service to ensure efficient account management. Deliver a high standard of customer service while protecting the company's commercial interests.
- Essential: Previous experience in Credit Control, Accounts Receivable or a similar finance-related role. Strong knowledge of credit management and debt recovery processes. Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate effectively. Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work. Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Competent user of Microsoft Excel and finance/accounting systems.
- Desirable: Understanding of legal recovery procedures and debt escalation processes. AAT qualification or equivalent finance-related certification.
