This is not a steady-state payroll role. Make sure to apply quickly in order to maximise your chances of being considered for an interview.
We are working with a privately owned, high-growth payroll, compliance and contractor services business operating at serious scale. Thousands of self-employed workers. Rapid growth. Complex moving parts. Big ambitions. They are already successful. They are now sharpening everything. This role exists because the business wants its payroll function to be best-in-class, not just coping.
The environment is a grown-up business with a genuinely impressive HQ, including a gym, swimming pool, bar, restaurant, and coffee shop. It is an office people want to be in, and a culture that values performance, clarity, and accountability. This role is five days a week on site. Collaboration matters here.
The role involves being the operational heartbeat of the payroll function. Managing a team of six, you will work closely with the Operations Manager to improve efficiency, tighten processes, and build a payroll operation that scales cleanly. This is about structure, foresight, and leadership, not constant firefighting.
What you will be trusted with:
- Leading and developing a payroll team
- Owning payroll delivery end to end
- Improving systems, workflows, and controls
- Removing friction as volumes increase
- Helping shape how payroll evolves as the business grows
Who this suits:
- You already manage people.
- You understand payroll environments well enough to be credible.
- You are calm, organised, and process-led.
- You want ownership, visibility, and a role where your impact actually matters.
Whats on offer:
- Up to £40,000 basic
- Annual company bonus
- Clear progression in a scaling business
- Outstanding working environment
