Umbrella Payroll | Hybrid (3 days Borehamwood or Bournemouth office / 2 remote) | £DOE

A fast-growing umbrella company with big ambitions is looking for a Head of Payroll to get stuck into scaling, stabilising, and shaping their payroll function.

They’ve recently opened a second office, brought in a new senior leadership team, and have no plans to slow down — but now need someone who knows umbrella payroll inside out to make sure the engine room is built for growth.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead and optimise the end-to-end payroll operation
  • Review and improve existing processes and systems to ensure compliance, efficiency and scalability
  • Manage and mentor a remote payroll team (with potential to grow the team further)
  • Collaborate with the wider SLT to support strategic decisions across the business
  • Stay on top of compliance and ensure everything is audit-ready at all times
  • Drive improvements using your experience and industry insight

What we’re looking for:

  • Solid experience running umbrella payroll — you’ll need to hit the ground running
  • Strong leadership and communication skills — someone who brings clarity and calm to a fast-moving environment
  • Experience with My Digital Accounts would be a bonus, but not essential
  • Comfortable being the go-to person on payroll strategy, process, and problem-solving
  • A builder — you’ll enjoy taking something solid and making it great

This is a brilliant role for someone who wants to make a real impact, be part of something growing fast, and help shape the future of the payroll function.
