Job Description

We are looking for an experienced HGV Class 1 Shunter to join our team at CML Telford.

This is a great opportunity for a reliable and safety-focused driver who enjoys working in a fast-paced transport environment and takes pride in keeping yard operations moving efficiently.

Working on a 4 on 4 off night shift pattern, you will be responsible for shunting vehicles around the yard and supporting smooth trailer movements across the operation.

There may also be some elements of driving off site, so applicants must hold the correct Class 1 licence and have all required driver documentation in date.

£36,924.95 per annum - Cat C+E Licence.

£1,000 attendance allowance bonus applicable per annum if attendance of all shifts

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Safely shunt vehicles and trailers around the yard.
  • Position trailers in the correct areas in line with site instructions.
  • Complete safety checks and report defects, damage or incidents promptly.
  • Use two-way radios to communicate with the Transport and Yard teams.
  • Support trailer temperature checks, fridge settings and fuel levels where required.
  • Manage traffic flow in and out of the yard safely and efficiently.
  • Liaise with other departments to support smooth loading and unloading.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, hygiene and housekeeping.

Qualifications

  • A Full C+E entitlement along with an in-date CPC and Tacho Card is essential for this position.
  • Previous shunting experience.
  • Knowledge of driver hours and road Transport Directive
  • Experience of working in a very fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work to challenging deadlines in a pressurised environment.
  • Self-disciplined and motivated.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
