Role Overview

Director of Data & Analytics APIs – responsible for building and maintaining a unified, API‑first distribution framework for CME Group’s market data products. This high‑impact individual contributor serves as the technical liaison between our APIs and customers, crafting SDKs and delivery mechanisms that simplify consumption of complex market data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and launch a high‑performance Python SDK that delivers “one‑line‑to‑insight” experiences, achieving rapid installation to action in seconds.
  • Release and maintain open‑source SDKs for popular languages (Python, C++), ensuring they provide a consistent developer experience for both external customers and internal users.
  • Implement a public schema registry (Protobuf, JSON or Avro) to enable partner and internal teams to generate client software.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to craft clear messaging, technical documentation, and first‑class reference documentation that defines all API behaviour and usage.
  • Develop tutorials, code samples, and dashboard templates to accelerate customer time‑to‑value and self‑serve adoption.
  • Expand cloud distribution by abstracting cloud‑specific technologies and provisioning a common messaging layer for existing data offerings.
  • Enforce schema consistency across services and latency tiers via a centralized schema registry.
  • Normalize authentication across the platform, retiring legacy approaches and simplifying cloud‑specific complexity for users.
  • Support external distribution technologies (Bobsled, SFTP, Curl, email, etc.) to provision products.
  • Implement group‑wide telemetry tracking to generate insights into user activity and product value.
  • Govern the API lifecycle, including GitHub governance, CI/CD pipelines for PyPI publishing, and versioning models.
  • Lead a technical audit across the organization to identify fragmentation, authentication gaps, and consolidation opportunities, and establish a hybrid versioning model for partner stability.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical foundation in capital markets data and a genuine interest in how data is used across futures, options and cash markets.
  • Expertise in Python; ability to write clean, idiomatic, and robust code for public consumption.
  • Experience designing and building cloud‑native SDKs and APIs on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Apigee, and related technologies.
  • Familiarity with WebSockets, REST, GCS, OAuth 2.0, GitHub, Protobuf/Avro, and SQL.
  • Polymathic ability to bridge business strategy, engineering, and technical writing.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and the capacity to work independently in a high‑impact role.
