A legal professional who is more stimulated by the commercial side of business will find this strategic position at the confluence of Licensing, Policy and Legal to be a perfect fit. While responsible for licensing and policy for several CME products, the successful candidate will also think critically about forward-looking agreement structures and IP-protective projects such as AI licensing and data 'on-chain'. As consumer trends, technology and data products evolve rapidly, you will use your legal training to future-proof the commercial structures that govern CME’s proprietary data and analytics products. You will work within the Data and Analytics Licensing and Policy team to develop commercial constructs that maximize global market reach, ensuring that our policies are not only legally sound but also commercially intuitive and easy for clients to adopt.

Key Responsibilities

  • Devise and draft innovative commercial policies and licensing constructs for CME’s proprietary data and analytics across Futures, Options, and Cash markets.
  • Apply legal rigor to analyze the evolving regulatory landscape (SEC, CFTC, MiFIDII) and determine its impact on data licensing models.
  • Conduct deep-dive reviews of new data consumption trends and competitor licensing frameworks to ensure CME remains at the forefront of industry standards and best-in-class policy design.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Law (JD or equivalent).
  • Proficient data analysis skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a talent for simplifying complex concepts.
  • Keen interest in IP protection of data and digital assets.
  • Demonstrable experience advising on license agreements.
  • Basic understanding of the value of financial market data.
  • Ability to translate legal risk into commercial and operational advice.
  • A hands-on, pragmatic mindset suitable for a growing business.
  • Proven ability to influence internal stakeholders and solve complex problems.
