CME Group is seeking a qualified or part-qualified European and/or UK patent attorney to join our IP legal team. This role involves collaboration with our innovative IP team, technology experts, and external counsel, working at the intersection of technology and finance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing all aspects of patent prosecution, including processing invention disclosures and developing IP protection strategies.
  • Overseeing patent prosecution with external counsel, ensuring quality, service, and policy adherence.
  • Managing invention disclosures and conducting patent training for engineers.
  • Advising management on patent strategies and analyzing our patent portfolio.
  • Conducting landscape studies and due diligence reviews related to IP.
  • Supporting patent assertions and advising on global IP law developments.

Minimum requirements:

  • Qualified or pre-qualified European or UK Patent Attorney or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant patent prosecution experience.
  • Degree in engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or significant professional experience in software.

Preferred skills:

  • In-house legal experience.
  • Experience with open source software, design patents, trademarks, IP litigation, licensing, and support for commercial transactions.
  • Understanding of financial markets and derivatives is advantageous.
