We are recruiting for a skilled Toolroom Operative / Toolmaker to join a high-quality manufacturing environment based in Devizes. This is a key role within the engineering function, responsible for the manufacture, maintenance, and repair of precision tooling used across production.

You will be working to tight tolerances, interpreting engineering drawings, and producing high-precision components using a variety of manual and CNC machining processes. This role offers variety, technical challenge, and the opportunity to work on both tooling manufacture and wider production support activities. This position would suit an experienced machinist, toolmaker, or CNC engineer who enjoys problem-solving, precision engineering, and working across a broad range of equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manufacture, repair, and maintain precision tooling to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Operate a range of workshop equipment including:
    • Manual and CNC lathes
    • Manual and CNC milling machines
    • EDM (spark erosion) equipment
    • Grinding machines
    • Laser cutting equipment
  • Carry out hand fitting, bench work, and finishing operations to high precision standards.
  • Support production departments with machining, tooling, and technical problem-solving when required.
  • Assist with CNC programming and process improvements where needed.
  • Contribute to the introduction of new tooling, processes, and engineering solutions.
  • Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting of tooling or production issues.
  • Manufacture bespoke fixtures, jigs, and work holding solutions when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organised workspace in line with 5S standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to apprentices or trainees when required.
About You

We are looking for someone with a strong background in machining or toolmaking who can demonstrate:

  • Time-served apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in machining, engineering, or toolmaking.
  • Experience operating manual and/or CNC machines (lathes, mills, or similar).
  • CAD/CAM experience (e.g. SolidCAM, OneCNC or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of precision engineering and tight tolerance work.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills and a team-focused attitude.
