Our client, a highly respected and established precision engineering and manufacturing business, is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Team Leader to join their Production Leadership Team at their Devizes site. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive engineering professional with supervisory experience to take ownership of a busy manufacturing cell, leading a skilled team while driving performance, quality, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring production targets are achieved while fostering a positive and engaged team culture.
The Role
- Reporting into the Leadership Team, you will act as the key link between senior management and shop floor operations, ensuring effective communication, strong team performance, and the smooth day-to-day running of your department.
- Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, motivating and developing a team within a precision engineering environment.
- Managing departmental resources to ensure production targets and customer requirements are met.
- Supporting employee development through training, coaching and performance management.
- Monitoring staffing levels, holidays, absence and overtime requirements.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives and encouraging team involvement in problem-solving activities.
- Managing workflow priorities and reacting effectively to changing production demands.
- Ensuring compliance with quality standards, engineering procedures and health & safety requirements.
- Supporting new product introductions, process improvements and the implementation of new equipment and technologies.
- Working closely with Engineering, Quality, HR and other key departments to support operational objectives.
- Leading investigations into quality or process issues and implementing corrective actions where required.
About You
- To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Team Leader, Supervisor or similar leadership role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- A strong engineering background with hands-on experience of machining, manufacturing processes or precision engineering.
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Experience using precision measuring equipment.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Strong organisational, communication and people management skills.
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of quality management systems such as ISO9001, AS9100, ISO14001 or IATF16949 would be advantageous.
