Are you a recent graduate in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline looking to kick-start your career in engineering? Our client is a leading precision engineering manufacturer supplying components to the Aerospace, Automotive, and Power Generation industries. They are looking for a Graduate Metallurgical Laboratory Technician to join their modern laboratory team, where you'll receive hands-on training while working alongside experienced engineers and metallurgists. This is an excellent opportunity to apply your academic knowledge in a real manufacturing environment, develop specialist laboratory skills, and build a long-term career within a highly respected engineering business.
The Role
Working within the Metallurgical Laboratory, you'll support the testing and analysis of materials used in the manufacture of high-performance engineering components. You'll gain experience across a variety of laboratory techniques while helping to ensure products meet demanding industry standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out hardness testing and metallurgical analysis
- Preparing samples using cutting, mounting, polishing, grinding, and etching equipment
- Using optical microscopy to examine material microstructures
- Assisting with tensile testing and material investigations
- Supporting root cause investigations into material defects
- Producing technical reports and maintaining accurate laboratory records
- Working closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams
- Contributing to continuous improvement projects within the laboratory
Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
About You
We're looking for someone with a genuine interest in engineering, materials, and manufacturing who is keen to learn and develop. Ideally, you'll have:
- A degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering/science discipline
- A keen interest in laboratory testing and manufacturing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good communication and IT skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Industrial placement, laboratory experience, or manufacturing experience would be advantageous but is not essential
Working Hours
Monday - Thursday 7:00am - 4:30pm or 7:30am - 4:30pm
Friday 7:00am - 12:00pm or 7:30am - 12:30pm
