This is an interesting and varied role for someone who enjoys research, working with information and getting the detail right. You don’t need previous experience in obsolescence management or component engineering, as full training will be provided. What matters most is that you are methodical, curious, comfortable using computer systemsand take pride in producing accurate work.
What will you be doing?
Working as part of our Obsolescence Management team, you will research and maintain component information used tosupport customers across a range of industries.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Researching electronic, electrical and other components using manufacturer, supplier and industry information sources
- Investigating component lifecycle and availability information, including product changes and obsolescence
- Gathering and recording supporting evidence from reliable sources
- Maintaining accurate component information within CMCA(UK)’s specialist systems
- Contacting manufacturers and suppliers by email, telephone and online channels where additional information is required
- Reviewing and updating existing component records as new information becomes available
- Ensuring information is accurate, traceable and meets our internal quality requirements
- Supporting the preparation and delivery of obsolescence information and reports to our customers
- Working to agreed customer requirements and timescales
- Supporting colleagues across the wider Obsolescence Management Services team
Accuracy is particularly important. The information researched and maintained by our team is used by customers to help understand component availability, lifecycle status and potentialobsolescence risks.
What we are looking for?
You don’t need to arrive knowing everything about components. We’ll teach you that.
We’re looking for someone who:

- Is confident using computers and web-based research
- Can interpret information from different sources and record it accurately
- Has good written and verbal communication skills
- Works well independently and as part of a team
- Is comfortable following defined processes and quality standards
- Is willing to learn and develop their knowledge
Experience using Microsoft Access or database systems would be advantageous, although it is not essential.
Previous experience within engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, procurement, data management or technical research may also be useful, but transferable skills are welcomed and full training will be provided.

CMCA(UK) provides specialist through-life support services to customers across sectors including aerospace, defence, automation, energy, transport, pharmaceutical and oil & gas.
Our Obsolescence Management Services team helps organisations understand and manage the risks associated with components becoming unavailable, obsolete or subject to manufacturer change.
You’ll be joining an experienced team where you’ll receive structured training and have the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in component and obsolescence management.

Due to the nature of our work, all employees are required to obtain appropriate DBS clearance. For some projects, the successful applicant may also be required to achieve additional Security Clearance.
