A growing SME based in St Albans is entering an exciting period of change and is looking for an experienced HR Generalist / People Partner to join on an interim basis to support and stabilise the people function.

This is a hands-on role where you'll be the go-to HR contact across the business, working closely with managers and employees to ensure the smooth running of day-to-day HR operations during a key phase of growth. While initially offered as a contract role, there is genuine potential for this to extend or develop into a longer-term opportunity for the right person.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a trusted HR partner to managers and employees, providing practical advice and support on day-to-day people matters.
  • Ensure the smooth running of HR operations and employee lifecycle processes across the business.
  • Maintain and update HR systems, ensuring employee records, contracts and documentation are accurate and up to date.
  • Support monthly payroll activities, preparing and collating information relating to starters, leavers, contractual changes and variable pay.
  • Manage onboarding, contracts, absence management and general HR administration.
  • Provide guidance on routine employee relations matters, including performance, attendance and conduct issues.
  • Support organisational change initiatives and help drive a positive employee experience.
  • Ensure HR policies, procedures, and practices remain compliant with UK employment legislation.
  • Partner with line managers to provide commercially focused HR support and advice.
Candidate Profile
  • Proven experience operating as a People Partner, HR Business Partner or HR Generalist within an SME.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Comfortable working in a hands-on, operational HR role.
  • Experience with HR systems, ideally Employment Hero, although this is not essential.
  • Available to start at short notice.
  • Able and willing to work onsite in St Albans, five days per week.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
