About the Business
As one of the UK’s leading care providers, our client delivers high-quality care across the South of England. The organisation has experienced significant growth and is now seeking a Chief Financial Officer to support the next phase of its evolution. The CFO will be instrumental in shaping the future of the business, with a strong focus on mergers, acquisitions, disposals, and new care home developments as the organisation continues to scale. Working in close partnership with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving strategic decision-making and long-term value creation.
The Role
The Chief Financial Officer is a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, responsible for providing strategic and commercial financial leadership across the organisation. This role combines high-level strategic oversight with strong operational control, spanning financial planning and analysis, performance management, investment appraisal, risk management, and regulatory compliance within a highly regulated care environment. The CFO will lead and develop a high-performing finance function, setting and delivering operational KPIs across the business. They will ensure robust financial governance while supporting the optimisation of care service delivery through improved efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Act as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board, contributing to the overall direction, performance, and long-term growth of the organisation
- Lead the development and delivery of the financial strategy, aligned with care quality, workforce sustainability, and regulatory requirements
- Play a key role in mergers, acquisitions, disposals, and new care home developments, including due diligence, valuation, and post-integration planning
- Oversee all core financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, reporting, and the maintenance of robust financial controls, governance, and risk management frameworks
- Drive financial performance across the portfolio, with a focus on occupancy, fee strategy, cost control, margin improvement, and investment returns
- Partner closely with Operations and People & Culture to support workforce planning, pay strategy, and effective control of agency spend
- Provide financial insight to support investment in care quality, estates, digital systems, and clinical governance, ensuring alignment with CQC and wider quality objectives
- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement
- Build strong cross-functional relationships to embed financial discipline and data-led decision-making across the organisation
- Champion the use of data, analytics, and performance metrics to identify opportunities for operational efficiency, productivity improvement, and sustainable growth
About You
Essential: The successful candidate will have proven experience as a Chief Finance Officer/Finance Director role within the healthcare sector. Previous experience of developing and maintaining close working relationships with a CEO and executive team. Senior financial leadership experience in a large, complex, multi-site organisation. Demonstrated success in leading M&As. A track record of building highly successful teams and delivering results. Highly developed knowledge of the regulatory and legislative environment. Demonstrated ability to balance commercial performance with service quality and compliance.
Key requirements include:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or demonstrable experience working at board level.
