Accounts & Tax Assistant

Overview

CMA is delighted to be working with a well-established independent firm of accountants who are looking to appoint an Accounts & Tax Assistant to join their friendly and supportive team. This varied role offers exposure across all areas of general practice, ideal for someone looking to develop within a close-knit environment and gain broad experience across accounts, tax, bookkeeping and VAT. The firm has a team of six, qualified or equivalent, offering plenty of opportunity for hands-on learning and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of year-end accounts for a wide range of clients (limited companies, sole traders and partnerships).
• Preparation of corporation tax and personal tax returns.
• Bookkeeping, VAT and CIS returns.
• Liaising with clients directly to obtain records and provide updates.
• Supporting the bookkeeping and tax teams with ad hoc tasks.
• Working alongside senior accountants and managers to ensure deadlines are met.

Suitable Candidate

• Experience within an accountancy practice (essential).
• AAT qualified / studying, or looking to study ACCA or AAT (full study support provided).
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to learning.
• A good understanding of bookkeeping and VAT principles.
• Confident using accounting software and Excel.
• A flexible, team-focused attitude with excellent attention to detail.
