Senior Resource Manager

Location: London (near Bank Station)

Working pattern: Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced Senior Resource Manager to take responsibility for creating a more structured, transparent and consistent approach to work allocation across our fee‑earning teams. This newly shaped role will play a key part in balancing workloads, improving collaboration and supporting the development and wellbeing of our people.

You will work closely with Partners, team leaders and a wide range of business services colleagues, ensuring that work is allocated fairly and efficiently while enabling individuals to gain exposure to matters that support their growth. This is a visible, influential role with real potential to improve the way teams operate day‑to‑day.

What You’ll Be Doing

Work Allocation & Development Support

  • Take ownership of allocating work across teams, ensuring decisions are based on skills, experience and capacity rather than informal or relationship‑driven approaches.
  • Help fee earners access a broader mix of work, supporting their progression, broadening their experience and contributing to higher engagement and retention.
  • Spot training needs, skill gaps, performance concerns or wellbeing issues early and collaborate with HR, L&D, Partners and other support teams to address them proactively.

Building Relationships with Leadership

  • Develop strong working relationships with Partners and senior leaders, gaining an in‑depth understanding of resourcing requirements, upcoming pressure points and longer‑term needs.
  • Attend regular meetings with leadership to share insights, updates and recommendations on utilisation and capacity.
  • Act as a trusted adviser on team resourcing and workflow management.

Supporting Fee Earners

  • Build rapport with associates, counsel, trainees and paralegals to understand their strengths, preferences, workload and areas for development.
  • Encourage and ensure timely updates of individual capacity forecasts to maintain accurate visibility of upcoming availability.
  • Support trainee supervisors in planning appropriate and varied work allocation.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work with other Resource Managers to help embed a consistent, best‑practice approach to resourcing across the wider organisation.
  • Partner with Practice Management, HR, Finance, BD and Project Management to align on recruitment, secondments, people initiatives and operational improvements.

Data, Reporting & Planning

  • Produce clear, regular utilisation and capacity reports to support informed decision‑making.
  • Monitor forecasted versus actual utilisation, identifying inconsistencies and helping address underlying issues.
  • Track holidays, absences and major workflow peaks to predict pressure points and recommend adjustments early.
  • Play a key role in the rollout and development of a new resource management system, helping shape improved processes and routines.

About You

  • Solid experience in resource management, workforce planning or work allocation within a law firm or another professional services environment (e.g., consulting, Big 4, engineering).
  • A confident, collaborative approach to engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • A commitment to fairness, transparency and inclusiveness in how work is distributed.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret utilisation data and communicate insights clearly.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and juggle multiple priorities.
  • A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset and the willingness to help shape new ways of working.

What’s on Offer

  • The opportunity to introduce and embed a forward‑thinking resource management approach.
  • Influence over people development, wellbeing, and operational efficiency.
  • A key role in supporting new processes, systems and ways of working.
