We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially aware Technical Estimator to join our growing fabrication business. The role involves preparing cost estimates based on technical drawings and CAD models for components manufactured through a range of processes including Laser Cutting, Brake Press Forming, Presswork, Tube Manipulation, Machining, and Welding. This is a customer-facing role requiring strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, and Sales Teams to ensure competitive and technically robust quotations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer RFQs, technical drawings, and CAD models to determine manufacturing requirements
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates covering materials, labour, machine time, tooling, and subcontract processes
  • Interpret engineering drawings (2D and 3D) and understand tolerances, finishes, and specifications
  • Liaise with internal departments to validate manufacturing feasibility and costs
  • Engage directly with customers to clarify technical and commercial requirements
  • Ensure timely submission of quotations in line with customer deadlines
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimisation
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within estimating processes
  • Maintain and update costing databases, routing templates, and estimating tools

Key Skills & Experience

  • 1–2 years’ experience in a similar estimating or engineering role within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of metal fabrication processes, including: Laser cutting, Brake press forming, Presswork, Tube manipulation, Machining, Welding
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Catia, or similar)
  • Good numerical and analytical skills with high attention to detail
  • Commercial awareness and understanding of cost drivers in manufacturing
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel in particular)
  • Experience working within one or more of the following sectors: Aerospace, Automotive
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems
  • Basic understanding of quality standards and requirements
