Clyde & Co is seeking an experienced Legal Director to join its National Professional Indemnity team, one of the largest and most respected PI practices in the UK market. This senior role requires a technically excellent lawyer with strong client‑facing skills, capable of managing complex, high‑value claims and contributing to the strategic development of the national practice.
Responsibilities
- Advising insurers and insureds on complex professional indemnity claims, including coverage, defense strategy, policy interpretation and reserving issues.
- Handling high‑value and sensitive matters across a broad range of professions (construction, law, accounting, surveying, architecture, engineering and consulting).
- Managing claims from inception through to resolution, including litigation, mediation and settlement.
- Acting as a trusted adviser to key insurer and broker clients, developing strong, long‑term relationships.
- Supervising, mentoring and developing junior lawyers within the team, ensuring consistent quality and technical excellence.
- Supporting partners with business development, including client pitches, panel tenders, thought leadership and client training.
- Contributing to the strategic growth and profile of the National PI practice, including innovation, process improvement and knowledge‑sharing initiatives.
Qualifications
- Qualified solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction.
- Significant post‑qualification experience in professional indemnity insurance, ideally within a leading insurance, commercial or disputes practice.
- Strong technical expertise in PI policy wordings, coverage issues and claims handling.
- Proven ability to manage complex, high‑value matters with a high degree of autonomy.
- Excellent client‑handling skills with a commercial and solutions‑focused approach.
- Experience mentoring junior lawyers and contributing positively to team culture.
- Interest in business development and practice growth.
