The Team

Reporting to the Global External Communications Lead, the role-holder will play a key part in helping to shape, implement and deliver a global PR, reputation management and external communications strategy and plan that helps the firm meet its ambitious business development and brand goals. This is an exciting role suitable for an ambitious communications professional who is looking for a broad global role that offers plenty of scope for growth and development as part of an integrated communications, marketing and business development function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Global External Communications Lead and alongside a Social Media Manager, the role-holder will help to shape, implement and deliver a global external communications strategy and plan and provide metrics to evidence it.
  • Maintain and build the firm's corporate reputation and support its business development strategy and plans for its sectors, practices and regions.
  • Oversee relationships with agencies.
  • Expose senior management, playing an integral role in building their external profile through media and other external communications channels, providing day-to-day issues management support and advice.
  • Proactively build relationships with key media, spot and act on breaking news stories of strategic importance to the firm, and work with agencies to position partners and other spokespeople as media commentators.
  • Help identify and manage successful thought leadership programmes for the firm and its practices, working closely with the Marketing and BD teams on creating and supporting the rollout of fully integrated campaigns that have real impact.
  • Provide coaching to partners and other spokespeople on dealing with the media and telling the firm's story via the media.
  • Work closely with the Global External Communications Lead on award submissions, surveys and rankings, and corporate announcements such as lateral hires, financial results and office openings.
  • Establish strong relationships with stakeholders around the world including lawyers, communications, business development and marketing team members to ensure a joined-up approach to PR and external communications.
  • Be a champion and ambassador within the firm for the entire communications, marketing and business development team and a role model for junior members of the team.
  • Support and lend a hand on other aspects of Communications as directed by the Head of Communications, including internal communications, digital projects, partnership events and more.
  • Be based in London but may include travel as needed.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • External communications experience; preferably in a professional services environment.
  • Insurance industry experience desirable, but not essential.
  • Demonstrable interest in writing, news and current affairs.
  • Demonstrable results in securing high-quality media coverage.
  • Experience in working with database, intranet and email marketing software.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Digital media skills are an advantage.
  • High degree of professionalism with an eye for detail and senior stakeholder exposure.
  • Excellent communication skills: ability to write clearly, concisely and convey key messages is a must.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities within tight timescales while maintaining high standards.
  • Team-spirited and collaborative, while being able to take the initiative and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all levels with confidence, positivity, and diplomacy.
  • Able to work to very tight deadlines under pressure and to assimilate information quickly.
  • Positive, energetic and robust with the ability to proactively drive initiatives forward.
  • Demonstrates creative thinking and attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to motivate, develop and inspire in a team and with fee-earners to deliver business goals.
