We are seeking a Cloud Network Engineer to join our team. We are growing our Data and Services business, creating insights from satellites developed and operated in-house.

You will be part of a growing team responsible for the design, implementation and evolution of hybrid space–terrestrial telecommunications networks. This is essential for AAC Clyde Space to achieve its ambition to lead the creation of new space-based maritime communication services. The role requires technical expertise in the delivery of scalable, reliable, and secure data and communication services.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with a passion for infrastructure quality and innovation, who has experience of enabling workflows and processes using cloud-based network functions. You should be comfortable working in an agile development environment and with infrastructure as code. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to creating innovative products within a fast-growing space technology company.

The role is based in either London or Glasgow where Hybrid Working is available. The nature of the role will require essential, occasional business travel (both local and global) plus the occasional ‘out of hours’ work that may be required to support customer and business activities.

Please note that in future, you may be required to complete a Basic Disclosure check.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and optimise cloud network infrastructure across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure), with a focus on performance, security, resilience, and scalability.
  • Design and implement virtual networking components including VPCs/VNets, subnets, routing tables, transit gateways, and VPN gateways.
  • Engineer and manage network security controls including firewall policies, security groups, NACLs, WAF rules, DDoS protection, and zero-trust network access (ZTNA) frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, to automate provisioning and configuration of network resources.
  • Support the integration of analytics and data services on top of the network infrastructure.
  • Design and operate containerised networking for Kubernetes environments, including CNI plugins, network policies, ingress controllers, and private control planes.
  • Implement and manage SD-WAN and hybrid connectivity solutions bridging on-premises, cloud, and satellite/non-terrestrial network (NTN) environments.
  • Enforce network architecture standards, producing high-quality low-level designs from comprehensive high-level designs.
  • Automate deployments, reporting, and network administrative tasks using scripting (Python, Bash) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Monitor and improve cloud and network environments, driving continuous service improvement through SLO/SLA ownership and post-incident reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with security, platform, and application engineering teams to deliver robust, well-integrated solutions.

Skills required:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Established professional with hands-on experience in cloud network engineering, with deep expertise in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and working knowledge of a second.
  • Proficiency with IaC tools such as Terraform; experience with GitOps workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with containerised networking in Kubernetes, including CNI configuration, network policies, and service mesh implementation.
  • Familiarity with SD-WAN technologies and hybrid/multi-site connectivity patterns.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring platforms (e.g. Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor) for network telemetry and alerting.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python preferred) for network automation and tooling.
  • Background in technology delivery across cyber security, digital services, or telecommunications domains.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling commonly used for technology delivery (e.g. GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Jira, Bitbucket).

Skills desired:

  • Relevant cloud or networking certifications such as AWS Advanced Networking Specialty, Azure Network Engineer Associate, GCP Professional Cloud Network Engineer.
  • Track record in the design, deployment, and improvement of telecommunications systems and services, including non-terrestrial networks (NTN) or satellite communications.
  • Experience with SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) or cloud-delivered security platforms.
  • Experience with network simulation or emulation environments for pre-production validation.
  • Relevant space and/or maritime industry experience.
  • Previous experience working within a small or medium-sized high-growth company.
