Motor Crime Defence Lawyer (2+ upwards PQE) – Motor Crime – Manchester office

We are looking for a lawyer experienced in defending motor crime investigations and prosecutions to join our specialist Regulatory Crime Department based in the Manchester office.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an expanding team within our multi-award-winning firm. The role is based in the Manchester office and requires regular communication with clients nationally. We have a collaborative, supportive team working in a modern, flexible environment.

We will consider individuals who are experienced in representing clients subject to Police investigations and CPS prosecutions relating to the spectrum of road traffic offences including: Death by Dangerous/Careless driving; causing serious injury by careless driving; careless driving; drink driving; no insurance; speeding etc. – ongoing training and investment will be provided. Those with relevant Prosecution experience would also be of interest to us.

All suitable candidates will be considered at any level of PQE and from NQ Solicitor or Legal Executive backgrounds upwards.

The Team

This is a great opportunity to work for a top 20 International law firm with one of the UK's largest Regulatory Crime Departments, recognised in the Legal 500 for General Crime due to its Motor Crime expertise.

As part of our close-knit team you would have the opportunity to develop your specialism in Motor Crime, undertaking insurer, corporate and privately funded matters (we do not undertake legal aid) working on a uniquely varied and frequently high-profile caseload. This is your opportunity to practice criminal defence in a truly corporate environment.

Our lawyers provide national coverage for a blend of insurer and corporate backed clients. You will be joining a team of 16 fee earners preparing and progressing cases from their early investigative stages (including the Police Station), through the enforcement process, and ultimately to conclusion before the Criminal Courts. Typical cases include Death by Dangerous/Careless driving; causing serious injury by careless driving and careless driving etc. through to trial, frequently having the luxury of instructing King's Counsel and working with a number of the UK's leading experts, where no stone is left unturned in the defence of our clients. Due to the high number of fatalities we deal with you will also become proficient in representation before the Coroners Court.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • You should be familiar with the Criminal Justice System (England & Wales) and understand the range of motoring offences and the available defences.
  • You will be smart and ambitious.
  • You will be a highly determined individual able to adapt well within a demanding, fast-paced team.
  • You will be willing and available to travel to anywhere in England and Wales to support clients and have a full driving licence.
  • You will enjoy being challenged by complex legal issues and expanding your knowledge.
  • You will be a confident and effective communicator. (Lack of advocacy experience should not preclude candidates applying).
  • You will be focussed on delivering a highly professional service to clients, including compliance with client Service Level Agreements and Management Information requirements.

In return, you will benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. Within our friendly department you will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression and promotion.
