The Resource Manager is responsible for the effective allocation and utilisation of lawyers across practice areas and client matters. This role ensures that legal professionals are deployed strategically to meet client demand whilst balancing lawyer development, optimising billable hours and maintaining compliance with professional standards. This role will be embedding resourcing into departments as a new concept and will require the Resource Manager to build strong relationships with key stakeholders whilst developing and implementing new processes.
Responsibilities
- Build strong relationships to anticipate resourcing needs
- Assist Fee Earners in staffing matters weighing utilisation, skillsets, team objectives and development needs.
- Monitor workloads and anticipate pipeline challenges, including upcoming absences and business priorities.
- Provide management information to support strategic decisions, reporting on utilisation, challenges, and other relevant issues.
- Conduct regular check-ins with associates to discuss development needs and escalate concerns as needed.
- Ensure trainees, new joiners, secondees, and returning colleagues are integrated and engaged with our resource allocation processes.
- Collaborate with other resource managers and business teams to optimise our approach and enhance our reputation for excellence and integration.
- Play an active role in supporting our commitment to diversity, inclusion, wellbeing, and team culture.
- Where resource management is new to the practice group, proactively support the change management and embedding of the function.
- Liaise with HR Business Partners, Finance Business Partners, COOs to manage ongoing people performance and continuous process improvement.
About You
- Demonstrated expertise in managing diverse stakeholders, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment across various organisational levels.
- Emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships at every level.
- Commercial awareness and a practical approach to solving resourcing challenges.
- Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion within the team and the allocation of work.
- Ability to challenge the status quo with professionalism and discretion, handling sensitive information responsibly.
- Collaborative spirit and willingness to support a fast-paced, high-performing and supportive team culture.
- Proven track record in effectively negotiating and mediating to resolve conflicts and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Been proficient in conducting thorough data and information analysis, providing insightful reports that drive informed decision-making.
- Experience in navigating complex project landscapes, adeptly managing change and overseeing diverse portfolios to successful completion.
- Previous experience in resource management, preferably legal but not essential.
