Associates – Healthcare – Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton or London

We are looking to attract a number of Associates at all levels to join our Tier 1 Healthcare team in our Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Southampton, or London offices. Our Healthcare practice has just been awarded Investors in People Gold, 2023. This team is committed to engagement, high‑quality work, and outstanding performance.

About the Team

Driven by the unprecedented demands of an ageing global population and the growing burden of lifestyle‑related chronic diseases, the global healthcare sector is undergoing rapid change.

Our multidisciplinary global healthcare group draws upon expertise across the firm and comprises lawyers who specialise in litigation, coroner’s inquests, the Court of Protection, capacity and consent, projects and construction, real estate, corporate, insurance, intellectual property, commercial, IT, regulatory and employment.

Our clients include public and private hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, insurance companies, healthcare suppliers and distributors as well as healthcare companies, private equity firms specialising in healthcare investments, health ministries and authorities.

With an extensive office network across the UK & Europe, US, Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East, we deliver a seamless integrated service to our healthcare clients worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply strong technical skills and legal principles to a range of specific complex problems;
  • Draft and interpret complex legal documents using specialist knowledge;
  • Advise and counsel on claims involving breaches of professional standards;
  • Conduct legal discussions and liaise with clients and witnesses;
  • Present at seminars, write for publications and host client events;
  • Understand our clients’ business and identify where the firm can help;
  • Prepare court documents;
  • Identify opportunities and develop new or follow‑on business;
  • Demonstrate understanding of the global firm, its offices and practices and actively seek out cross‑selling opportunities;
  • Manage client expectations, objectives, negotiating position and key concerns.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 1 PQE (qualifications are a guide and all suitable candidates will be considered);
  • Display excellent legal skills and initiative, managing and prioritising a full and varied caseload;
  • Significant relevant experience in defended clinical negligence practice, including medical malpractice and experience with multimillion‑pound matters;
  • Experience working within the healthcare sector;
  • Legal solicitor status: practising certificate, successful completion of a training contract (or equivalent) and relevant education (Legal Practice Course; Graduate Diploma in Law if non-law graduate; 2:1 honours degree or equivalent; A Levels).
