We are seeking a high‑calibre England & Wales qualified associate (4 – 6 PQE) to join a growing energy practice, with a focus on upstream oil and gas transactions. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and expanding practice, working on high‑profile international matters with significant responsibility and clear progression prospects. The role is suited to a technically strong, commercially minded lawyer looking to work closely with senior partners on complex, cross‑border mandates, with a high degree of responsibility and client exposure.

The team advises a diverse client base, including supermajors, Middle Eastern national oil companies, independent E&P companies and commodity trading houses. We work across a broad spectrum of upstream matters, including country entries, equity investments and alternative financing structures in the upstream sector, alongside core project and transactional work.

Key Requirements
  • England & Wales qualified lawyer with 4 – 6 years' post‑qualification experience
  • Strong grounding in upstream oil & gas transactions, gained in private practice or in‑house
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating a range of core upstream agreements, including:
    • Concession agreements, production sharing contracts (PSCs), EPCCs, EPSAs, royalty regimes and risk‑based service contracts
    • Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs)
    • Farm‑in / farm‑out agreements
    • Unitisation agreements
    • Lifting agreements and gas sales agreements
    • Crude oil and gas transportation agreements
Role & Responsibilities
  • Act as a key support to partners on complex upstream transactions across multiple jurisdictions
  • Take a lead role in drafting and negotiating transaction documentation
  • Manage discrete workstreams with increasing autonomy
  • Work closely with clients
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and client relationship management
