We're looking for a friendly and enthusiastic Trainee Cook to join our team at Plas Telford Extra Care Scheme in Wrexham. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys cooking, baking and working with people. You'll be part of a busy kitchen team helping to prepare and serve freshly cooked lunches for residents while developing your skills and experience in a supportive environment.

Alongside providing meals for residents, the scheme also has a welcoming café that is open to the public, giving you the opportunity to interact with customers and be part of the wider community. No two days are the same, but you'll always be part of a team that takes pride in creating enjoyable dining experiences and making people feel welcome.

Working Pattern

This is a permanent part-time position working a two-week rota.

  • Week 1
    • Wednesday: 08:30 - 14:30
    • Thursday: 08:30 - 14:30
  • Week 2
    • Monday: 09:00 - 14:30
    • Tuesday: 09:00 - 14:30
    • Saturday: 08:30 - 14:30
    • Sunday: 08:30 - 14:30

(All shifts include a 30-minute unpaid break.)

What You'll Be Doing

  • Supporting the preparation and serving of meals for residents and café customers
  • Assisting with food preparation, cooking and baking
  • Helping to meet dietary requirements and preferences, including allergies and specialist diets
  • Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen safety
  • Assisting with stock rotation and food storage
  • Working closely with colleagues to provide a positive dining experience
  • Building positive relationships with residents, visitors and members of the public
  • Developing your skills and knowledge with support from experienced colleagues

Essential Requirements

  • Experience providing good customer service
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • An interest in food preparation, cooking or baking
  • Good communication and people skills

Desirable

  • Experience working with food in a kitchen, catering or café environment
  • Food Hygiene qualification (or willingness to work towards one)
