About The Role

We’re looking for a Relief Cook / Chef with a genuine passion for cooking, a positive, flexible attitude, and someone who enjoys working with older people. About Hafan Gwydir

Hafan Gwydir is a purpose-built Extra Care scheme with 40 one- and two-bedroom apartments for people aged 60+. It combines independent living with 24/7 on-site care and support and features a restaurant, hair salon, and an adjacent health centre. Residents enjoy a safe, friendly, and community-focused environment where they can live well, stay connected, and enjoy daily life.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in line with menus and residents’ preferences
  • Assist in meal preparation, ensuring all ingredients are fresh and stored correctly
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen, following all food safety regulations
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth service during busy periods
  • Monitor food stock levels and report any shortages
  • Follow recipes accurately while contributing creative ideas for new dishes or menus
  • Ensure all kitchen equipment is maintained and cleaned regularly

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Catering qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery) or significant experience in a similar role
  • Knowledge of food safety legislation and Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB) practices
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Positive, flexible, team-oriented ‘can-do’ attitude
