About the role

We have an opportunity for a Cook to join our dedicated team at Maes y Derwen, a purpose-built extra care housing scheme in Wrexham that supports older people to live independently, with care available on-site when needed.

As Cook, you'll be at the heart of daily life within the scheme, preparing nutritious, well-balanced and well-presented meals for residents in the restaurant and communal dining areas. Mealtimes are an important social part of the day, and your work will play a key role in supporting residents' health, wellbeing and sense of community.

Working closely with scheme management and care teams, you'll help maintain high catering standards, contribute to creative menu planning, manage stock and budgets, and ensure full compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements.

You'll be joining a welcoming, community-focused environment where good food, creativity and resident-focused service are genuinely valued.

What you'll be responsible for

  • Preparing and cooking a variety of meals in line with menus and residents' preferences
  • Supporting menu planning with creative ideas and varied, nutritious options
  • Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety at all times
  • Monitoring food stock levels and reporting shortages
  • Ensuring kitchen equipment is cleaned, maintained and used safely
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure a positive dining experience

What we're looking for

Essential

  • City & Guilds Level 2 / NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a food-related qualification
  • Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2
  • Health & Safety Level 2 and Allergen Awareness
  • Experience catering for 50+ people
  • Practical cooking experience in a care, restaurant or similarly busy kitchen environment
  • Good understanding of food safety legislation and Safer Food Better Business (SFBB)
