Why this role? The FinOps Analyst is the technical engine behind Snyk’s Cloud Financial Management practice. Working at the intersection of Infrastructure, Product, and Finance, you will own the data foundation that allows Snyk to hit its margin targets. You will be responsible for the visibility and optimization of our global cloud hosting estate, ensuring sustainable usage through real‑time analysis, technical advocacy, and proactive cost governance.
What you’ll do:
- Operational Visibility & Reporting
- Foundational Capabilities: Build and maintain the FinOps infrastructure, including cost forecasting, granular dashboards, and actionable reporting for engineering teams.
- Usage & Tagging Standards: Own the global cloud tagging standards and cost‑allocation logic to ensure 100% reporting health across AWS and GCP.
- Data Provisioning: Act as the "Data Engine" for profitability, providing high‑fidelity consumption trends to the Lead Procurement Business Partners, FP&A, and Pricing teams.
- Technical Optimization & Architecture
- Platform Optimization: Drive cost efficiency across compute, storage, databases, observability, and search platforms.
- Durable Engineering Solutions: Analyze infrastructure drivers to design and implement high‑impact technical optimizations that scale with our growth.
- Architecture Advocacy: Partner with R&D teams to influence architecture and operational decisions, ensuring "cost‑efficiency by design" without sacrificing innovation.
- Cost Governance & Management
- Cost Incident Management: Establish and monitor anomaly detection; lead the triage of billing spikes to ensure immediate remediation and root‑cause analysis.
- Commitment Management: Execute Snyk’s "commercial math" strategy, including the purchase and lifecycle management of Savings Plans and Reserved Instances.
- Efficiency Identification: Partner with engineering squads to identify and remediate "low‑hanging fruit," such as unattached volumes or over‑provisioned instances.
- Strategic Influence
- Cross‑Functional Bridge: Serve as a critical link between Finance and R&D, translating complex billing data into clear, strategic recommendations for engineering leaders and executives.
What you bring:
- Experience: 3–5+ years in Cloud Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, SRE, or FinOps, with a track record of driving impact across multiple teams or systems.
- Cloud & SaaS Mastery: Deep hands‑on experience with AWS and GCP, as well as major SaaS providers (e.g., Datadog, Confluent, Snowflake).
- Analytical Prowess: Proficiency with cloud billing data (AWS CUR / GCP Billing Export) and SQL/Visualization tools (Looker, Tableau, etc.).
- Execution Focus: Proven ability to drive cost initiatives from initial problem identification through to technical execution and measurable outcomes.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to shape decisions with senior engineering leaders and business partners without formal authority.
- Adaptability: Experience operating effectively in high‑ambiguity environments and building practices from the ground up.
- Certification: FinOps Certified Practitioner (FCP) is highly preferred.
