Job Title: Facilities & HSE Manager
Location: Southampton
Salary: Circa Β£45,000, flexible depending on experience
We are recruiting for an experienced Facilities & HSE Manager to lead health, safety, environmental and facilities activity across a busy manufacturing environment.
This is a hands-on, influential role suited to someone who can build a proactive safety culture while also ensuring buildings, plant, equipment, contractors and statutory compliance are well managed. You will work closely with senior management and operations teams, providing practical advice, oversight and challenge where needed.
The Role
As Facilities & HSE Manager, you will be responsible for developing and improving health and safety systems, maintaining site infrastructure, coordinating planned and reactive maintenance, and ensuring environmental and statutory compliance across the site.
Key responsibilities include:

Leading health, safety and environmental management across the business

Promoting hazard reporting, near-miss reporting and employee engagement

Maintaining risk assessments, safe systems of work and HSE procedures

Carrying out site inspections, audits and incident investigations

Managing statutory compliance, including RIDDOR where applicable

Overseeing machinery safety, COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, DSEAR, fire safety and contractor controls

Managing facilities, utilities, buildings, equipment and site infrastructure

Developing planned preventive maintenance programmes

Coordinating reactive maintenance and external contractors

Maintaining maintenance records, equipment registers and compliance documentation

Supporting environmental compliance, waste management, emissions control and pollution prevention

Reporting on HSE performance, compliance, risks and corrective actions

Supporting business continuity and emergency preparedness
About You
You will need proven HSE management experience within a manufacturing, engineering or similar industrial environment, together with the confidence to challenge unsafe practice and escalate significant risks.
Essential experience and qualifications:

HSE management experience in manufacturing, engineering or heavy industry

NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent

Strong knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation

Experience with risk assessments, incident investigation and statutory compliance

Experience managing facilities, maintenance activity or engineering contractors

Strong communication, leadership and organisational skills
Desirable experience:

NEBOSH Diploma or higher-level equivalent
-
IOSH membership
-
Foundry, machining or heavy manufacturing experience
-
ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 experience
-
Knowledge of LOLER, PUWER, COSHH, DSEAR and environmental permitting

Experience with maintenance budgets or capital expenditure projects
