The Role

We are looking for a Senior Data Analyst with deep Power BI expertise who will act as the technical owner of our Power BI reporting landscape. This role is primarily focused on Power BI development, semantic modelling, performance optimisation, and governance, while also supporting ad hoc analytical initiatives when needed. This person will have to be able to spend a few days per week in the London office.

You will work closely with Data Engineering, fellow Data Analysts, and business stakeholders across the organization to design scalable, high‑performing, and trusted BI solutions that enable data‑driven decision‑making.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Data Analytics / Business Intelligence roles.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering Power BI solutions in a production environment.
  • Experience in SaaS or similar fast‑paced, data‑driven environments is strongly preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Power BI expertise:
    • Strong data modelling skills (star schema, dimensional modelling, relationships, granularity management).
    • Advanced DAX for complex calculations and performance tuning.
  • Advanced SQL skills:
    • Writing complex queries for data extraction, transformation, validation, and performance optimisation.
  • Experience working with enterprise data warehouses, including:
    • Medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers).
    • Kimball dimensional modelling methodology.
  • Strong understanding of BI performance optimisation techniques (model design, aggregation, incremental refresh, efficient measures).

Analytical & Soft Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset with the ability to troubleshoot data and reporting issues.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex insights in clear, business‑friendly language.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high‑quality outputs within deadlines.
  • Strong documentation and organisational discipline.

Good to Have

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric (including Lakehouse, Warehouse, Direct Lake, Dataflows Gen2).
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with Power BI deployment pipelines and enterprise governance setups.
  • Knowledge of advanced visualisation and dashboard UX best practices.
  • Exposure to predictive analytics or data science workflows.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or R for automation, advanced analysis, or API integrations.
  • Relevant certifications such as:
    • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
    • Other BI or analytics‑related certifications

Job Responsibilities

  • Power BI Development & Ownership
    • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise‑grade Power BI solutions, including semantic models (datasets), reports, and dashboards.
    • Build scalable and optimised data models following best practices (star schema, Kimball methodology, proper relationships, reusable measures).
    • Develop advanced DAX measures and calculations to support complex business logic.
    • Use Power Query (M) for efficient data transformation and shaping.
    • Ensure performance optimisation of reports and datasets (model size control, query folding, measure optimisation, incremental refresh where applicable).
    • Manage deployment processes across environments (Dev / Test / Prod) and promote version control and structured release practices.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture Collaboration
    • Partner closely with the Senior Data Engineer to ensure data is structured according to BI best practices (medallion architecture, curated layers, dimensional modelling).
    • Contribute to defining and maintaining a scalable semantic layer that enables self‑service analytics while maintaining consistency.
    • Support data architecture decisions from a reporting and analytics perspective.
  • Data Quality & Governance
    • Validate and reconcile data using SQL and other tools to ensure accuracy and consistency across reporting assets.
    • Implement and uphold governance standards in Power BI (naming conventions, documentation, workspace organisation, certified datasets, access control).
    • Ensure reports are aligned with data governance policies and security requirements (e.g. row‑level security where needed).
  • Business Engagement & Insight Delivery
    • Translate business requirements into robust, intuitive, and scalable BI solutions.
    • Partner with Finance, HR, Professional Services, R&D, and other teams to understand reporting needs and define KPIs.
    • Deliver actionable insights through well‑designed dashboards that follow modern data visualisation best practices.
    • Support ad hoc analysis and deep dives to answer strategic or operational questions.
  • Performance & Continuous Improvement
    • Optimise SQL queries and data retrieval processes to ensure high performance and reliability.
    • Proactively identify opportunities to improve existing dashboards, models, and reporting processes.
    • Stay up to date with evolving Power BI capabilities and BI best practices.
