We are seeking a reliable, well-presented, and customer-focused Bar Steward at Knowle Cricket Club. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high standards of service, maintaining cleanliness and safety, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the bar.
Job Summary:
To manage the day-to-day operations of Knowle Cricket Club, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere, high standards of service, and smooth running of the bar and facilities. The Steward acts as the face of the club, supporting members and guests while maintaining operational excellence. To ensure that other members of the bar team deliver exceptional service to our members and their guests. You will be responsible for preparing and serving drinks, maintaining a clean and organised bar, and creating a friendly atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of the premises, cellar, storage and bar
- Provide excellent customer service to members and guests
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to members and their guests, ensuring that all beverages are presented neatly and consistently
- Follow all alcohol service regulations
- Collaborate with the Committee to ensure Club rules are implemented
- Ensure the building is securely locked and alarmed at the end of trading hours, including conducting final checks to confirm all doors, windows, and entry points are secure
- Supervise bar staff, including training
- Responsible alongside Bar Chairman for hiring bar staff, with Committee assistance
- Collaborate with the Bar Chairman & Secretary regarding staff performance and disciplinary matters
- Work with the Bar Chairman to organise shift rotas
Health & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with licensing laws and health & safety regulations
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards throughout the premises
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and the Club buildings chairman
- Ensure proper storage of drinks and garnishes, following health and safety guidelines
- Ensuring all waste is disposed of correctly, including separating and recycling materials as required
- Emptying bins regularly throughout shifts to maintain a clean and safe environment
- Putting out waste and recycling bins for weekly collection, in accordance with the venueβs schedule and local regulations
Bar Operations:
- Monitor stock levels, place orders, and manage deliveries, ensuring there is adequate inventory of drinks and supplies
- Support the Committee with Club events, functions, and bookings
- Assist in managing the Club diary for Skittles and Darts fixtures as well as social events
- Maintain cleanliness of bar area, glassware, and equipment, ensuring a clean and organized bar area throughout the shift
- Monitor inventory and restock bar supplies levels during shift
- Recommend drinks and upsell specials
- Handle customer queries and complaints professionally
- Take orders and process payments accurately
- Check customer ID to verify legal drinking age
- Handle financial transactions, including till reconciliation and banking
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in hospitality or club management
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- Knowledge of bar operations and cellar management
- Basic financial and IT literacy (e.g. spreadsheets)
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
