UNSW Fitness & Aquatic Centre is seeking an experienced and driven Health & Fitness Manager to lead our fitness, group exercise, and wellness offerings, shaping the future of health outcomes for our diverse university community.

About the Role

As Health & Fitness Manager, you’ll be responsible for the strategic development and day‑to‑day leadership of all fitness services across the centre, with a strong emphasis on group fitness and studio‑based programming. This includes gym operations, group fitness, personal training, and exercise physiology. You’ll bring proven experience managing group fitness timetables, studio operations, and instructor teams, ensuring high‑quality delivery, strong class attendance, and programs that are both commercially sustainable and member‑focused. Working closely with the Venue Manager and broader leadership team, you’ll play a key role in driving participation growth, member retention, and continuous improvement across all fitness services. This is a hands‑on leadership role that balances strategy with operational excellence and requires flexibility to support instructors, programs, and operational needs as they arise.

The Opportunity

We’re seeking a dynamic and experienced Health & Fitness Manager to lead our health & fitness operations at UNSW Fitness & Aquatics Centre. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and inspire fitness staff, including group fitness coordinators, instructors, and personal trainers.
  • Oversee group fitness and studio operations, ensuring timetables, instructor management, and class performance drive participation and member satisfaction.
  • Champion operational excellence, maintain safe, clean, and welcoming fitness spaces, and respond swiftly to last‑minute changes or emergencies.
  • Manage budgets, monitor financial performance, and implement strategies for growth.
  • Collaborate with university stakeholders and sports clubs to expand engagement.
  • Support marketing initiatives to boost visibility and retention.
  • Foster a proactive safety culture across all programs.

About You

  • Proven leadership in health and fitness, with experience managing group fitness and studio programs.
  • Skilled in timetabling, instructor management, and driving participation.
  • Confident people leader, highly organised, adaptable, and responsive.
  • Excellent communicator and problem‑solver.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Health, Fitness, Sports Management, or related field.
  • Certificate III & IV in Fitness, First Aid & CPR, Working With Children Check, NSW Police Check, and valid driver’s license.

Full‑time, with flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends.
