UNSW Fitness & Aquatic Centre is looking for enthusiastic, member‑focused Gym Floor Instructors to join our team and create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive training environment. This is a hands‑on role, perfect for fitness professionals who enjoy being active on the gym floor, building rapport with members, and delivering exceptional customer service.
About the Role
As a Gym Floor Instructor, you'll be a visible, approachable, and supportive presence throughout the facility. You’ll help members stay safe, feel confident using equipment, and enjoy a positive experience every time they walk into the gym. You’ll also play an important role in maintaining high presentation standards, supporting safe operations, and contributing to the overall success of the Health & Fitness team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a friendly and helpful presence on the gym floor
- Assist members with safe equipment use, spotting, and general exercise guidance
- Supervise strength and cardio areas to ensure safe and appropriate behaviour
- Maintain cleanliness and presentation of all training spaces (re‑racking, equipment cleaning, tidying)
- Respond to member enquiries and escalate issues as required
- Promote centre programs, services, and facility offerings
- Carry out opening/closing procedures as rostered
- Uphold UNSW policies when managing member behaviour
- Support WHS requirements, including inspections, hazard reporting and emergency response
About You
- Certificate III in Fitness (essential)
- NSW Working With Children Check
- Confident engaging with members of all backgrounds and fitness levels
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Reliable, proactive, and team‑oriented
- Experience working in a gym environment (desirable, not essential)
The Roster
- Part‑time and casual roles available
- Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts
- Some weekend availability may be required
- Hours vary depending on operational needs
