Full-time, permanent | Liverpool L5 9TR | Reporting to the Founders
Lead the launch of North Liverpool’s newest padel, fitness and lifestyle destination. Club Mona is opening in Fortress Works, on Great Howard Street / Bentinck Street – right in the heart of the Ten Streets / Vauxhall regeneration corridor, moments from the Titanic Hotel and Everton FC’s Hill Dickinson Stadium. Across three floors and roughly 40,000 sq ft, we’re building 8 padel courts, a full gym floor with dedicated studios, a ground-floor recovery suite, an in-house cafe & bar, and a retail shop – all under one roof, with nothing else like it north of the city.
We’re looking for a General Manager to take full operational and commercial ownership of the venue from the ground up: someone who can walk onto a padel court, into a gym induction, behind a coffee counter and into a P&L review in the same afternoon, and be genuinely credible in every one of those conversations. This is a rare opportunity to shape how a multi-concept leisure venue is run from day one, not step into someone else’s playbook.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Whole-site leadership: You’ll be the single point of accountability for Club Mona’s day-to-day operation and its commercial performance – working closely with the founders on strategy, budgets and growth, while running the building yourself, hands-on, every day.
- Padel & Court Operations: Court utilisation, pricing strategy and booking platform management across 8 courts. Overseeing the resident Padel Pro coaching team, tournaments, events and club programming. Working with our self-employed Personal Trainers and Padel Pros to keep the floor busy, visible and well-run, without them sitting on your payroll.
- Gym, Studios & Recovery: Running a full gym floor and group fitness studio programme that justifies a premium membership position against every gym in the city. Overseeing the ground-floor recovery suite (sauna, ice bath, hot plunge) – including member safety, session protocols and the member journey from gym floor to recovery. Owning member retention, satisfaction and the day-to-day member experience across a 600-member site.
- Food & Beverage: Full oversight of our in-house cafe & bar – working alongside a dedicated F&B Manager on menu, supplier relationships, stock control, food safety and service standards across a 6am–11pm trading day. Balancing daytime cafe trade with an evening bar offer, and making sure both feel like a genuine reason to visit Club Mona, not an afterthought.
- Retail: Running the on-site club shop – stock selection, supplier relationships and merchandising for both padel players and gym members.
- Corporate Events & Sponsorship: Selling and delivering a monthly programme of corporate hospitality events across the courts, cafe and bar. Building genuine commercial partnerships – court sponsorship, an anchor venue partner, and brand relationships that add credibility and revenue.
- People & Team Leadership: Leading a team of around 30 across reception, F&B, kitchen and housekeeping, built around a live, footfall-driven rota covering 6am–11:30pm, seven days a week. Direct line management of the Assistant GM, F&B Manager and Bookkeeper, with full accountability for recruitment, training, rostering and standards across every department.
- Commercial Ownership: Full P&L accountability – revenue, cost of sales, staffing costs and overheads across every part of the business, reporting directly to the founders. Budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting, with real input into pricing, membership strategy and investment decisions as the venue matures.
What We’re Looking For
This is not an entry point into venue management – we need someone who has already run a comparable multi-department operation and can walk in ready to lead from day one. Extensive, proven experience as a General Manager or senior operations leader within leisure, fitness, hospitality or a comparable multi-site/multi-department consumer business. A genuine track record of owning a P&L – not just running a department, but being accountable for the numbers behind it. Experience leading teams across multiple disciplines at once (for example: fitness/leisure operations alongside food & beverage, retail or hospitality). Comfortable being hands-on in a new-build, pre-opening environment – comfortable with ambiguity, building processes from scratch, and being the person everyone looks to when something needs deciding. A genuine passion for padel, fitness or hospitality, and the credibility to represent a premium, ambitious brand from day one. Strong people leadership – someone who can build, train and retain a team, and set a service standard the whole venue is judged against.
What You’ll Get
£55,000 per year base salary, plus performance-related bonuses tied to venue trading performance. The chance to lead a flagship new-build venue from pre-opening through to a mature, thriving business – and to genuinely shape how it’s run. Real commercial responsibility and visibility with the founding team, not a layer of management between you and the decisions that matter. A rare opportunity in a genuinely differentiated business – North Liverpool’s only significant padel venue, with no direct local competitor.
