Job Overview

We are seeking experienced, compassionate, and dedicated Support Workers to provide high-quality care to service users in Norwich and surrounding areas. You will be supporting individuals with complex needs, including:

  • Severe learning disabilities
  • Autism (including non-verbal individuals)
  • Complex care needs such as stroke-related conditions

This role is ideal for someone with strong experience in both learning disability support and complex care who is passionate about improving the quality of life for others. You will work on a full-time rota provided 3 months in advance, with both day and night shifts available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, person-centred care and support
  • Support individuals with severe learning disabilities, autism, and non-verbal communication needs
  • Assist with daily living tasks (personal care, bathing, dressing, mobility)
  • Administer medication and monitor health conditions in line with care plans
  • Provide support with manual handling and hoist procedures
  • Carry out or assist with clinical tasks such as suctioning (where trained)
  • Support individuals with stroke-related care needs
  • Promote independence, dignity, and choice
  • Provide companionship and emotional support
  • Use appropriate communication methods (e.g. Makaton, PECS)
  • Transport service users to appointments or activities where required
  • Maintain accurate records and follow care plans and risk assessments

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months UK care experience
  • Proven experience supporting individuals with:
  • Learning disabilities
  • Severe autism
  • Non-verbal communication needs
  • Experience in complex care (including stroke care, medication, manual handling)
  • Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training (required)
  • Strong understanding of person-centred care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Desirable Skills

    • Experience with suctioning
    • Knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
    • Familiarity with autism-specific approaches and sensory needs
    • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
    • Valid UK driving licence
    • Basic First Aid training
